Another Banner and six little handout designs

Alright, so I've got some more designs. I fixed the web address, and I'm going to send Daniel the business card as soon as I finish this post. I've put them behind links so they can be higher resolution without it screwing up the formatting on the blog.

#1, #2, #3, #4, #5 and #6

The first three are designed to make people think about what their values are and perhaps let them see Atheism, Freethinking and Agnosticism in a new light. Clearly, they aren't geared toward the fundamentalist; they're more designed for people who align themselves with a particular church in name only. I figure those are the people who are most open to freethought. The second three were a little bit more fun and light-hearted. Those were the only three slogans I could come up with last night, but feel free to suggest more.

Basically, I figure that we can photocopy these; they're designed to be reproduced without color. Two of them will fit on each 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper, and then we could cut them apart. I left a spot on the bottom, "Come visit us..." to put in a regular meeting date, so that if someone approaches our table, we can offer them one. If you guys don't think that'd be a good idea, I can easily change it to only mention our website.

Here's a third banner design, suggested by Chelsea:

I've been thinking about how to parallel evolution with religion, although I haven't been able to come up with any good ideas. The other thing is, personally, I'm not sure how effective making a strong anti-christian statement on our banner would be. I figure that our banner should be clean and simple. Besides, anyone who is insightful enough to think about the drawing could easily infer a parallel meaning to religion and atheism. Nevertheless, it's up to you guys. These designs are not for me, they are to represent all of us.

And Daniel, how's the meeting coming along, whether it be for officers or general members? I know it's the end of the semester and people are busy, so if you want to schedule it first thing next semester, that'd be fine, however I'm open to any evening this month.

Looking at them on the website, #5 and #6 seem to look darker than they did in photoshop. If they end up being printed, I'll defintely lighten them. Let me know if they for some reason turn out too dark to see on your monitor; I can post a lighter version.

And I feel that the silhouette on number 3 needs some work to be as effective as the other two. Agree?

Davy,

EXCELLENT!!!

I like them all. I really like #5, and the words in #3 the best of the two sets (1-3, 4-6)

Wonderful job. You are da' man!

Two constructive criticisms:
1) Change the word "faith" in #2 to "worldview"
2) Move the top question in #4 up a little to make it more symmetric

Thanks so much, Davy!

Everybody leave your calendar open for Thursday and Rob was talking about a party potentially this weekend.

hmmm... Thursday could be a problem for me since I have class from 5:10 to 8:05, but other than that, sounds good. I'll get there as soon as I can.

I love all of them! I think we should find a way to use all of them. Why choose? Alternating signs, slogans will keep people from getting bored with them anyway. Two suggestions, though. I agree faith should be changed to worldview. Also, why do atheists keep avoiding the word moral? It means the same thing as ethical. We shouldn't be afraid to use it - we need to take it back from the religious! By the way, I tried to get an account, but even putting in a user name that was just numbers resulted in being told this user name not available! --Lynne

Lynne,

I don't know why you're having that problem, but it is likely related to cookies. Try clearing all cookies from your browser, and ensure that you don't have your settings configured to reject cookies.

All,

I'm going to attempt to get a room for this upcoming Tuesday. I'll post when/if it happens.

Davy,

I passed along your fantastic samples to the SSA, and the current Director, August Brunsman, gave you some props on the main SSA page!

Congrats!

Best regards,
Daniel

PS: Don't forget to look at Davy's other banners for AAFSA as well -- also excellent quality.
